FAQs

Q: How do I arrange a visit to view the school?

A: Please ring on 01245 352166 and we will tell you the dates available to show you round as part of a small group. We will be showing groups round throughout the autumn term. There will be an opportunity to ask questions, and if your child has particular additional needs that you would like to discuss then there will be a chance to speak to the head teacher during the visit.

Q: Do we apply to the school?

A: No, all admissions are handled by the local authority.

Q: What is the priority admission area?

A: There is a page on the Essex Council website where you can check whether you fall within the priority admission area, but it is roughly the area known as Old Moulsham.  Some streets do not fall within this area, so please do check on the website.

Q: Are we guaranteed a place if we live in the priority admission area?

A: No, there is no guarantee of a place – 60 places will be offered based on distance to the school.

Q: My child is at Moulsham Junior School, does the sibling guarantee still apply?

A: Yes, if you have a child at Moulsham Junior School, even if that child did not attend Oaklands, a sibling can have priority admission.

Q: If I move out of the priority admission area, does the sibling guarantee still apply?

A: Yes, it does still apply.

Q: Do you offer before and after school care on site?

A: No, but we have close links with Dovedale Nursery across the road who do offer a breakfast and after school club from 7.30am to 6pm, and other providers include Camelot Nursery and Footprints Nursery.

Q: If my child gets a place, are there any visits prior to September?

A: Before your child joins the school you will be invited to attend a meeting, at which you will have the opportunity to meet the staff who will be working with your child, find out about the day to day running of the school, see the classrooms and ask any questions. You will also be invited to bring your child to a series of pre-school visits which are quite informal and will give both you and your child the opportunity to make new friends and to experience working and playing in the school environment at first hand.

Q: Is a place at the partner junior school (Moulsham Juniors) guaranteed for Year 3?

A: Yes, as long as you apply to the local authority by the relevant closing date, when your child is Year 2 at Oaklands.
